Principal’s Message

Dear families and friends,

Term 3 has proved to be an exciting time for our school community with a whirlwind of notable activities. The highlight of this term was undoubtedly the opening ceremony of our new school building on Thursday, 22 August. We had many distinguished guests in attendance including; the Hon. James Merlino, Deputy Premier of Victoria, and Minister for Education; the Hon. Katie Hall, Member for Footscray, Victorian Legislative Assembly; the Hon. Lucinda McLeish, Deputy Leader of the Victorian Liberal Party, Shadow Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Regional Cities; and Cr Lucinda Congreve, Mayor of Brimbank City Council.

Also in attendance were members of the Sirius College school board, in particular our Chairman Mr Cengiz Altinors, our Executive Principal Mr Serdar Takimoglu, our former Executive Principal Mr Mehmet Koca and our former Principal of Ibrahim Dellal Campus, Mr Hasan Dagli.

The Hon. James Merlino, graciously declared our new building ‘open’ by unveiling a commemorative plaque. He then took a tour of the building, visiting classrooms where he met and spoke with students. He was suitably impressed by the new facilities. All in all it was a wonderful occasion which will be remembered as a significant highlight in our school’s proud history. Please enjoy some of the photos from the day, at the end of my message.

In addition, I would also like to acknowledge and congratulate several of our students on their outstanding performance in some recent inter-school competitions.

Our chess team returned from the Kryal Castle Chess Shield with two silver medals and two bronze medals. From the primary team, Aydin Dervish (6B) and Aurnia Chowdhury (5A) have qualified for the primary boys’ state semi-finals and the primary girls’ state finals, respectively. From the secondary team, Md Warith Chowdhury (7B), Mohammad Ghafari (9B) and Johar Malik (9B) have all qualified for the secondary state finals.

In the primary inter-school athletics tournament, Iman Ibrahim (4B) has qualified for the regionals championship after achieving first place in the girls’ 100m event.

Our Year 3 students, Idil Ismail and Aisha Mohamed Shakeel also did us proud by achieving first place in the inter-campus spelling bee.

Well done to all and what a great end to a wonderful term! I am certainly looking forward to more excitement in Term 4.

Mr Halil Ibrahim
